Somethin's Fishy

Fish scale patterns are so interesting. They have that scalloped feature to them that adds just the right amount of texture. And lucky for us here at Fashionable Interiors, it's a pattern that's applicable to both of my favorite worlds. Check it out: Such a beautiful ring. How have a gone through life without it??

I heart black and gold. I don't know what it is about this color combo, but I constantly find myself gravitating towards it.

I was so excited when I found this chair. It's almost like a mullet; serious in the front, party in the back:

This floor covering is really interesting. I'd prefer to use it in a small space, like a powder room. Also would be great in a beach house.

Pretty Peacocks

Peacock feathers are just plain gorgeous, whether they're on the body or in the home. Let's start with their usage in interiors. I literally gasped when I saw this mirror. Insanely gorgeous. Then I got to thinking, where have I seen this before?

Then it hit me. Jonathan Adler used it in the best decorating book ever, Domino. Pictured below, he used it in Liz Lange's foyer. (who by the way designs Target maternity clothes that I would totally wear minus the bun in the oven.)

I love the idea of using this wallpaper as an accent wall. So beautiful. I've also seen pillows with similar motifs.

Please don't kill me for talking about Christmas decorations already, but I can't help it, I got bit by the holiday bug already. This is for sure my inspiration for this year. Look at this tree! Craziness I tell you!

To go along with my peacock Christmas, Michaels has this collection below for Holiday 2009. I'm getting the car keys now.Let's switch gears to the fashion world. Milly's Fall 2009 collection featured peacock feathers galore. It's difficult to find these pieces now, since they're on sale, but you still might have some luck. I've seen some of the pieces at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. So cute, right?This has been a popular trend lately. Bird feather accents for your hair. Awesome idea for a dressy night on the town:

And finally, this long entry is coming to an end, but I have saved the best for last. The mother of all dresses:Apparently it was shown at a bridal show. This dress is seriously a piece of artwork, but if I wore this down the aisle, I think my fiance would run.

Eveningwear at Home and in Your Closet

With the holidays fast approaching, the ever-present question remains. What should I wear for the parties? You could wear the same dress you always wear, or you could try something new, like shorts! Paired with all the fun tight options out there, this look is very chic. Check out these silk taffeta ones from J.Crew: Priced at $118, if you're thinking you need to stash some dough away for gifts, try this cheaper option from Forever21 for only $19.80:Sticking with Forever21, they also have this really cute option with little jewel accents:

Now, what do I mean by Eveningwear at Home? Well, you know that decor that has those classy little touches, like chandeliers, velvets, gold accents and furs? Yea, that's what I'm talking about:

Colorado, Here I Come!

My tickets are booked for Colorado in January!! I'm so excited to hit the slopes (translation: sit in the lodge by the fire with a hot cup of cocoa). With the thoughts of snowy mountains in my mind, I'm thinking what should I wear?? I definitely do not have serious snow boots, just the little Uggs that will probably not be heavy duty enough for Colorado's -10 degree weather. I found these cute ones at Target, on sale for $29.99 and they mean business: Fair-isle sweaters always enter my mind when I think of ski lodges. I will totally be picking up this cute one from the always budget-conscious Old Navy: Ok, I sort of want to make fun of myself for even suggesting this option, but seriously who cares if I am beyond toasty? (plus, it's at Gap for $29.50)I really wish I had a mountain home to decorate. There's just so many options that are not going to work in your everyday home. I shouldn't say that, actually a huge trend right now is faux taxidermy, which I happen to love. These antlers (and there are definitely chicer options like ceramic versions) are from Haus Interior, a little interior design shop I visited in NYC last month. I could see them in a library, no?And all the other images below have me dreaming of my upcoming trip:

Ruffles Galore

Ah, the old ruffles debate. Some people embrace them with all their hearts, while others would enjoy nothing more than burning anything that even resembles the gathering of fabric. J.Crew has been in love with them for multiple seasons, so can you guess what my opinion is on them? Yea, I got ruffles flowing outta my closet. So this trend has got me thinking, what options are out there for incorporating them into your interior designs? Check em out:

I remember when Pier1 came out with these pillows, I fell in love: (Note: I do not suggest putting these on your sofas if you live with a male as he will not appreciate their delicate look and will use them as if they were a bed pillow).

This is going to send chills down your spine. A ruffle chair. No, I'm not kidding, this is a real thing. By Swedish designer Fredrik Farg, I want one in every room of my house:

Finally, look how awesome this foyer is. So clean and simple, but the architectural elements add the punch it needs. But, wait is that a ruffle I detect in that pendant light? Awesome.

Now, I may potentially need a whole other entry to discuss ruffles of the fashion world. I'll try to restrain myself. In the interest of time, I've just made entire J.Crew ruffles collages, complete with the garment's names. How else was I going to get all the ruffle options across to you? (and these aren't even all the options!) The best way to wear ruffles without looking 5; pair it with boyfriend jeans or anything structured, like a blazer. Anything menswear helps to counteract the girliness. P.S. There is no need to inform me of my crazy J.Crew obsession, I am well aware.

Jersey Dress

To go along with yesterday's abrupt ending of my post, I have found the ultimate jersey dress at the ultimate price. Norma Kamali for Wal-mart is the answer. Her collection for our favorite super store is seriously sweet. Here is this dress I speak of, that can be worn in multiple ways:

Dual Duties

Today's entry is all about double duty. With the recession finally coming towards an end, everyone is still in the mode of maximizing their dollar, and I have some great ideas for doing so!First we'll discuss interiors. The trend in homes is moving more and more away from the McMansions and more towards smaller homes. Less square footage means more of a challenge to maximize space. Below are some great ways to do so:

First we have a bathroom doubling as a dressing room (stay tuned for an entry on these). It's an awesome idea if you ask me. Jump outta the tub and there's your outfit waiting for you. Plus I'd love to marry this mirror, we'd be so happy together.

Next is an idea that I myself have even used. Sometimes it's hard to say goodbye to a closet, but when it looks this cute, why not? I've even seen some designs where they've removed the closet doors and used pretty curtains to hide the office. Seriously an awesome idea to consider when you have nowhere for a desk.Finally, who doesn't want a library with a ladder in their house. Even if you never use the ladder, it's still awesome to have. But who really has a spare room to turn into an entire library? This has become a big trend; doubling your dining room as a library. Really, how many people even use a formal dining room anymore? For holidays and that's about it. Fashion has the same beautiful trait as dual interiors. It can be worn so many ways and turned into so many outfits. Like this Bouquet Satin Dress from Forever21. Easily worn to the office with a blazer and some tights, this baby can be transformed for a night on the town. Just remove the blazer/tights add some big jewels and some hot shoes and you're ready to go. Also looooove exposed zippers:

There's something about this skirt I love. Well first it's by a totally unattainable for me designer, Phillip Lim. Second, it's seasonless. And third, it has a really sweet twisted hem. It's designed for the Resort 2010 collection, but you could totally wear this in cooler weather. Add some cute tights and a pair of boots for now. When summer comes, slip into some sandals and go. (At Nordstrom, but I'm not diggin the snakeskin pumps paired with it.)

This entry is getting a little long, so I'll just quickly mention jersey dresses. Extremely versatile, some are designed to be worn multiple ways. For sure an investment piece. Thanks for reading!
