Sheen and Shine

A big trend I've been noticing lately is the use of high gloss paint in the home. It's so fun! I know, I know, the old rule is to use flat paint to hide drywall imperfections. But when it looks this good, who cares?

It makes me think of the sheen of satin:

J.Crew
(surprisingly, I do not own a satin blazer. Add that to the never ending list...)

I love how work appropriate she made this satin skirt.

A Fashionable Interior

I LOVE this woman's outfit. So, I'm sorry I know this word is over used but I have to say, chic! Of course, she's French:

The above matching vignette has me wanting to create the exact same entry at my house.

P.S. I saw the most amazing cape at the Seven for all Mankind outlet and didn't buy it. I will remember this cape until the day I die now, unfortunately.

Tough Preppy Chic Style

I am currently blogging from my hotel room in Orlando (where there is no snow might I brag) and I'm here for the International Builder's Show. I discovered some seriously impressive home trends, which I'll be sharing with you when I get back, but the most important part of this whole trip was the amazing outlets Orlando possesses. I scored an amazing pair of leather leggings yesterday for a price that almost made me jump up and down with the salesgirl, but now comes the challenge of figuring out how to wear them. (By the way, I do not advise purchasing something that you later have to figure out how to wear unless of course it was the best deal of our time...) My husband has been so kind in saying that yes indeed they are different, instead of saying what were you thinking??

My advice for wearing something that typically does not coordinate with your style is by pairing it with something that is your style. For me, the leather leggings will go perfect with my collection of preppy blazers:

I know I used Olivia Palermo twice, but she rocks my world...

Black leather can also look a little tough in the home, but here are some images I'm sure will change your mind:

Designer Spotlight - Reed Krakoff

Remember when I had the amazing privilege of interviewing Delphine Krakoff? She was totally amazing and I loved that she gave a little blogger like me the time of day. Well in that interview, she told at the time me she was working on the exciting job of designing her husband Reed's (the dude at Coach who's responsible for all the amazing designs) new line. Elle Decor just featured on article on his new store and I had to share:

The floorboards were imported from France (ooo lala!) and I've definitely seen that coffee table in other designs by Delphine, but I can see why she likes using it.
I think the design of the space is the perfect backdrop for his modern clean-lined collection. To read the full article, click here. I have an NYC trip later this month, maybe I can pop in and see it in person!

Here are some designs from his pre-Fall 2011 collection that I enjoy (as you can tell, I'm a fan of the long dresses in his line):

It's Complicated

I have a big problem. Paying bills last weekend, I noticed how expensive our Comcast has been lately, so I called to see if there was anything I could do to lower our bill. Well, it's $10 less, big accomplishment; however I now have ALL the movie channels, not just HBO anymore. Now, all I want to do when I get home from work is park my butt in front of the tv and watch whatever movie looks appealing.

I did watch It's Complicated the other night, and I have to dedicate a blog post to this movie. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did! I mean Meryl Streep, hello she could be in the stupidest movie and still rock it, but what I enjoyed the most was the set design. LOOOOVE her kitchen!! And her little bakery?? Never before have I wanted to own a bakery, but just seeing hers made me want to start popping muffins in the oven and selling them at the crack of dawn.

The marble island is a must have for me.

Meryl's style as her character of Jane also was fantastic. AND I knew the pendant she was wearing in the scene above was the Judy Hudson butterfly wing I blogged about last year. They were so expensive at Barneys, but tadah! I have found some amazing stand-ins on etsy. I am ordering one as soon as I'm done typing this.

Have you seen the movie?
